Serving Seniors
According to U.S. Census data a baby-boomer (a person born between 1946 and 1964) celebrates a 50th birthday every seven seconds. With each birthday, a new flood of challenges for the real estate industry ensue. Meeting the complex needs of this group requires a true understanding of this market and what resources are available to help them. The National Association of REALTORS® offers a Senior Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) designation that will teach REALTORS® the best way to meet the needs of this growing group of clients, and as Gary Fenton, a Glendale REALTOR® and new SRES® designee puts it, “there is a lot to know!”
Gary Fenton has been an Arizona REALTOR® since 1978 and is currently with HomeSmart. He pursued his SRES® designation in early February 2013 as a conscious effort to focus on a more niche-market, one he could relate to. “I’m a part of this group!” exclaimed Fenton. “Who better to help them than one of their own?” All kidding aside, Fenton says that he’s making the move to focus more on this bourgeoning market. “With this designation, you learn how to target your marketing to address the specific needs of this group.” And the needs, says Fenton, are varied. “For most people 50+, the financial pressures are greater.” Fenton says that the increasing cost of healthcare weighs heavily on the minds of these buyers and can have a significant impact on their decision to buy. Fenton said, “There’s a lot of financial pressure to make tough choices at a time in their lives when they don’t want complexity.”
Earning the SRES® designation can help agents at all phases of their career. This two-day designation course addresses the unique needs of one of the fastest growing markets in real estate. Taught by industry veterans, this course uniquely provides REALTORS® with a comprehensive understanding of how different life events play into the home-buying choices of this market. If you are interesting in pursuing your SRES® designation, AAR has several upcoming courses to choose from. For more information, watch this video or visit www.aaronline.com. The SRES® designation costs $159.00.
